How to install Lightroom Mobile onto a phone
Lightroom is an editing software that allows you to edit photographs with specific settings. You can adjust colours, saturation, exposure, contrast and many more settings that alter how a photograph looks.
To install Lightroom on an iPhone, you need to go onto the App Store and search Adobe Lightroom. Then press the "Get" or "Open" button and the app will automatically start to download onto your phone. Do not download Lightroom Presets. Download the Adobe Lightroom app. The link is here for Apple users.
To install Lightroom on an iPhone, you need to go onto the Google Play Store and search Lightroom. Then press the "Install" button and the app will automatically start to download onto your phone.
Lightroom Mobile is specifically made for phones and it is free. However, if you enjoy using Lightroom and want to learn more, you can install Lightroom on your laptop/desktop and pay for the professional version which costs $10 a month. I use both and I suggest that people new to Lightroom and editing start with the free version.
How to install & use Presets on Lightroom Mobile
A preset is a configuration of settings, designed to achieve a certain look or style for your photographs. With just one click on a preset, your photo can be altered to look a certain way. Presets are used for different reasons. People use them so that an Instagram page has a certain color theme or style. Other people use them as an easy way to edit photographs quickly. Or you can use them as a total beginner to start to learn about photo editing.
Whatever your reason for being interested in presets, here is a good place to start. Below I will explain exactly how to install presets, how to use them and how to make slight adjustments so that the presets work their best for you.
Add the desired presets to your cart and follow through with the check out. You will be promoted for some information including your name, email and address. Once you place the order, you will see a screen saying "Order Received". You will see the total, order number and date. This means the order has been successful.
On the "Order Received" page, you will see a list of downloads which states the product name and a download button.
Press the download button for the first preset you have purchased and your phone will automatically download the preset to your phone. You may be asked if you want to download the file, press Download. Do this for all presets you have purchased. This may take a while as it downloads the file so please be patient.
There may be a little blue download icon on your screen, so make sure that has finished before clicking away.
Once the file has been downloaded, open Lightroom Mobile.
Go to the albums section and press the blue plus button on the bottom of the screen. This gives you the option to add photos "From Camera Roll" or "From Files". Select the "From Files" option. Here you should see a list of files that were recently added, the preset should be there. If you can't see it here, click the Browse button on the bottom right of the page and type the name of the preset here. This will search your phone and find the preset.
Once you open the photograph on Lightroom, you now need to save the settings. Select the photograph that appears, click the 3 dots at the top of Lightroom, and then click "Create Preset". Here you can call it whatever you want, but I think it's best to keep it the same name as the preset so you don't get confused. Make sure the preset group is set to User Presets and select all of the tick boxes. Once you have done that, press the tick on the top right of the screen to save the preset.
Now you add your own photographs to Lightroom like we did before hand. Select the photograph you wish to edit, slide the settings tool bar all the way to the right and press the "Presets" tab. Be sure that you have selected the User Presets and select the preset you want to use. You can switch between the presets to see how they all act differently and change your photograph in different ways. I would recommend purchasing more than 1 preset as some work best for indoor photographs, some are best for outdoor photographs. Some are best on bright photos while others are best on dark photos. Experiment with which ones look best and press the tick on the bottom right of the screen.
If the photograph is still too dark or too bright, you can change the exposure by moving the tool bar along the bottom back to the left hand side and select the "Light" tab. Here you can play with Exposure, Highlights & Shadows. Be careful not to save over the preset that you purchased but feel free to move any sliders you want.
Yes you can crop a photograph and if you're editing for Instagram, I recommend you cropping to 4x5.
Once you are happy with the photograph, you can save it by pressing the export button top right of the screen. Then press "Export to Camera Roll" and this will automatically save it to your phone. From here you can share the photograph on Instagram or with family & friends.
